Your wedding day will be a blur to you and your parents. You plan the many details for months, but your wedding day goes by so fast that you will miss a large part of it. A wedding video is like a “time machine”. It lets you relive your wedding day as often as you like, anytime you like. As a fellow videographer put it, “It let’s you attend your own wedding at your leisure without the stresses and distractions of the day.” It is also a significant and important “living” document for your families, your children, and grandchildren. Some couples don’t realize just how important their wedding video will become until they experience the loss of a loved one that attended their wedding.

I Want a Wedding Video but I Have a Friend With a Camcorder
Some couples use a friend or family member to videotape their wedding day. Would you have a friend or family member take all of your wedding photographs? Probably not.

We have heard numerous stories of people running out of tape or batteries, not shooting important activities, and taking shaky or bad footage. Using a friend or relative can cause hard feelings and ruin relationships if your video is poorly done or not done at all. And, unlike Steven Spielberg or even your photographer, your videographer has only one take to capture your wedding day activities. The ceremony or special events can’t be stopped and done over if something isn’t perfect.

Your wedding videographers must be the:

     - cinematographer
     - editor

and they must perform all of these jobs well to produce the wedding video that you hope for and deserve.

Pricing varies depending on experience, services offered, time spent, etc. Choose a videographer based on how their work makes your feel when you see it then discuss pricing based on what it will take to produce your personal video memory.

One of the most charming things about weddings is their link to the past. There are many wedding customs that may seem old-fashioned to modern brides, but that doesn’t mean that they are not worth including in your wedding. Take a look at some of these sweet old-fashioned wedding customs, and see if they might be right for you.

There are several traditions involving the bride and groom before the wedding. One was that they should not see each other the night before the wedding, and the other is that the groom should not see the bride in her gown before the wedding. Many couples today do not bother with these customs, perhaps finding them to be inconvenient when the couple already lives together before the wedding. Before you decide not to bother with these traditions, keep in mind the old saying that absence makes the heart grow fonder. Besides, the last night before her wedding is a very sweet time to have your best friend stay with you and help you get ready to be married the next day.

Another custom that many brides do not bother with is the blusher veil. In fact, many brides do not wear any veil at all. You might be surprised, however, at how many grooms picture their bride walking down the aisle towards them with her face covered by a veil. The veil is the part of the ensemble that takes you from a woman in a white dress with lovely handmade wedding jewelry to being a real bride. In some religions, the veil is required, but even when it is not, it can be a lovely part of your wedding.

A very cute wedding custom is having charms baked into the cake. Each little charm represents something happy for the guest who finds it. For example, a horseshoe stands for good luck. A tiny wedding band means that the person who finds it will soon be married. It is a charming homespun tradition that would be wonderful to include in a wedding or a bridal shower. Just be certain to alert your guests so that they do not swallow the charms!

In these days of over the top weddings, few brides consider having more simple weddings. The custom used to be that the bride wore her very best dress (in any color), maybe with a special piece of wedding jewelry that was handcrafted for her mother’s wedding, and got married in front of close friends and family. Now, few brides today are looking for such a low-key affair, but it is something to keep in mind as anecdote to the extravagant weddings that we see everyday on tv and in the magazines. A reasonably sized wedding can be just as meaningful as the one with the elephants and fireworks.

Oftentimes, the most special customs of all will come from within our own families. If you are not aware of any particular wedding customs in your own family, talk to your mother and grandmothers about their weddings. It may be that you could carry the same flowers in your bouquet as your grandmother or dance to the same first song as your mother and father did thirty years before you. It is these types of traditions that will make your wedding especially personal.

Many brides become so consumed with having the latest and greatest at their weddings that they make forget about some of the customs from an earlier time. Although they might be old-fashioned, some of those wedding traditions can be very sweet. You may want to include some of the older customs in your own wedding.

Before you head off to your dream wedding and honeymoon, don’t forget the packing for the wedding itself. Much will depend on where you’re having your wedding and your own personal style. If you’re getting married in a formal wedding dress, be sure to carry it with you – don’t trust your dress to checked luggage. Most airplanes have coat closets and will allow travelers to hang garment bags. Check with your airline.Grooms should also carry the clothing needed for the ceremony. If you’re getting married in the Caribbean, you won’t find many tuxedo rental shops in the islands. It is easiest to bring clothes with you. We recently saw a panicked groom in the Bahamas wearing a tuxedo shirt, coat, cummerbund -and a pair of jeans. The stressed-out groom was racing for the lobby door to meet a clothier who had located a pair of tuxedo pants after the groom’s were lost in his luggage. Don’t let this happen to you!Also, carry all original documents–including birth certificates and divorce papers, if applicable–in your hand luggage. Don’t pack these in checked luggage!

Many resorts have on-site beauty salons, so you can make sure your hair is perfect for your wedding day. (If you plan to do your own hair, be sure to check first on the electrical current and plugs at your destination. You may need to bring converters for hot rollers and other appliances.) Many resorts also have on-site spas which can pamper the two of you with a massage to work out the kinks from your flight.

For the wedding, you’ll want to pack some of these items, depending on your plans:

shoes (if you’re planning a tropical wedding, remember that high temperatures and humidity, coupled with a long flight, can make feet puffy)

Your wedding ceremony can be held just about anywhere you would like – and many couples opt for the great outdoors, either at the beach, on a river bank, in a park, vineyard, or garden, or on the sparkling waters of a harbour for an unforgettable wedding cruise. Be creative with the location.This is a once in a lifetime event and you should choose a venue that is beautiful and meaningful to you both. Here in Australia we are truly blessed with the variety of outdoor locations that are perfect for weddings. Some brides and grooms enjoy the freedom of a beach wedding, while other water lovers opt for a specially chartered cruise vessel.

If you prefer to have your feet on terra firma, consider the romance of a beautiful country garden, an orchard, a vineyard, or a magnificent botanical garden. Depending upon the time of year, you could exchange your vows surrounded by lush greenery, the delicate pink and white of spring blossoms, or autumn’s vibrant reds and golds.

When planning any outdoor wedding, there are a few logistics to consider. For example, you will need to select a spot that is reasonably easy to access, particularly if you have very young children or older relatives among your guests. You should also discuss your plans with your marriage celebrant, as well as with your photographer, videographer and the musicians you have hired to play at the ceremony so that they can make any special arrangements that may be necessary.

Parking is another factor that shouldn’t be overlooked. Is there adequate parking within easy walking distance to the spot you’ve chosen? If not (and you have your heart set on this particular location) you may be able to arrange for your guests to gather somewhere close by and hop on a bus that you’ve hired to transport them to and from the wedding. This could add a fun ‘mystery tour’ element to the day – but allow plenty of time for this manoeuvre to be carried out successfully!

If your chosen wedding venue is a public space, you may need to obtain permission for its use from the relevant authorities. And no matter what location you choose, be sure to give your guests clear directions on how to get there, as well as advice on suitable dress and footwear.

Are both your wedding and reception to take place at the same location? Then you’ll probably need to investigate the hire of a marquee for your reception. A marquee is a flexible and creative option. They can be erected just about anywhere (as long as you have permission) and can be decorated anyway you choose. However, if there are no kitchens nearby you’ll need to hire a fully equipped caterer’s tent and possibly a generator, as well as arranging for access to fresh water. Discuss this with your caterers, who may be able to give you some useful advice.

Finally, while an outdoor wedding can be a wonderfully romantic and relaxed celebration, always choose an alternative indoor venue as back up in case of bad weather.

Acknowledging the Death of a Parent at Your Wedding

When a parent or other close relative has passed away recently, it’s important to find an appropriate way to remember them without ruining the joyous tone of the wedding. After all, a wedding is a celebration, and while a missing parent is certainly sad, it shouldn’t overpower the wedding day.

Some ways to remember a parent:

Set up a special small table at the wedding reception with a flower arrangement and a card saying “In memory of those loved ones who are not with us today” or more specifically, “In memory of Martina Jensen, mother of the bride.” You could also put a picture of the bride or groom with the deceased person you are honoring.
At the wedding reception, display wedding pictures of family members, or pictures of loved ones with the bride/groom. This is a more subtle way of including the dead in your day.
Wear a piece of jewelry or article of clothing. (For example your mother’s wedding dress, your father’s cuff links, or your grandfather’s signet ring).
Carry the same flowers that your mother had in her bouquet.
At the end of the wedding program, it is appropriate to add a memoriam line. For example, you might write “Today we honor those who could not be with us, especially the bride’s stepmother Alison Janet Brooks.”
If the person who is conducting the ceremony is someone who knew the deceased relative, it might be appropriate for him/her to say something during the ceremony – particularly if they are saying a homily or other sermon-like speech. They might say “Today, we have come together to celebrate the love of these two people and the life they are building together. As many of you know, the groom’s father recently passed away. And in times like these, it can be more important than ever to honor love and family. I know (groom’s father) was so happy to see (groom) find the love he has with (bride). Although it would be easy for his recent death to make this a sad occasion, (Groom’s father) would want to see you all so happy today,celebrating and full of joy. So today, let’s remember how precious life is, and be thankful that (bride and groom) are creating a new family together.”

Barbarasays “My father died about 8 months before my wedding, so he couldn’t walk me up the aisle. I walked up alone, and carried one of his silk handkerchiefs – boy did I need it!”

Maxsuggested the bride dance with her mother for the father-daughter dance, to her late-father’s favorite song.

Joansays “My older brother will stand in for my dad who died 2 years ago.We will play a special song by Heartland “I loved her first” I am getting married Dec. 23, 06 to my best friend.”

Robinsuggests leaving empty chairs for favorite deceased relatives at the wedding ceremony.

Melissahad lots of great suggestions: 1)placing photo charms of loved ones in the bride’s bouquet. 2)lighting candles during the wedding ceremony for each of the deceased relatives. 3)a son standing in for his grandfather in walking the bride down the aisle and during the traditional father-daughter dance.

At her wedding, Ria set a table with a photograph of her deceased parents, a button holer, a corsage and two candles. The following day she placed her head table’s floral arrangement on their graves, along with a wedding photo.

Shelby plans to honor her beloved grandfather by displaying his WWII flag at her wedding.

Cyndy plans to incorporate her father’s wedding ring into her bouquet.

Kristin will honor her father, who coached her soccer team, by wearing shinguards under her wedding dress!
